چکیده

Shall We Kill or Enslave Caesar? Analyzing the Caesar Model When a society overthrows a ruler – call the ruler Caesar – what determines whether Caesar is killed or enslaved? This paper presents a model of killing versus enslaving Caesar, based on a new theory which unifies justice, status, and power. The model pertains to societies which value ordinal goods like bravery, yielding predictions for three of the five types of societies – justice-nonmaterialistic, status, and power-nonmaterialistic. Results cover members’ gains, effects of own rank and group size, and relative gains from killing or enslaving Caesar. Further results suggest that Caesar will be killed only in a justicenonmaterialistic society, and from the noblest of motives – to achieve equal gains for members. JEL Classification: D6, I3, N40

Avalanche Effect in Improperly Initialized CAESAR Candidates

Cryptoprimitives rely on thorough theoretical background, but often lack basic usability features making them prone to unintentional misuse by developers. We argue that this is true even for the state-of-the-art designs. Analyzing 52 candidates of the current CAESAR competition has shown none of them have an avalanche effect in authentication tag strong enough to work properly when partially mi...

Cryptanalysis of some first round CAESAR candidates

ΑΕS _ CMCCv₁, ΑVΑLΑNCHEv₁, CLΟCv₁, and SILCv₁ are four candidates of the first round of CAESAR. CLΟCv₁ is presented in FSE 2014 and SILCv₁ is designed upon it with the aim of optimizing the hardware implementation cost. In this paper, structural weaknesses of these candidates are studied. We present distinguishing attacks against ΑES  _ CMCCv₁ with the complexity of two queries and the success ...

Assessment and validation of the CAESAR predictive model for bioconcentration factor (BCF) in fish

BACKGROUND Bioconcentration factor (BCF) describes the behaviour of a chemical in terms of its likelihood of concentrating in organisms in the environment. It is a fundamental property in recent regulations, such as the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use or the Globally Harmonized System for classification, labelling and packaging. These new regulations consider the p...

CAESAR: A Technique for Angle-Dispersive Powder Diffraction Using an Energy- Dispersive Setup and White Synchrotron Radiation

Introduction We describe a new diffraction technique for Combined Angleand Energy-dispersive Structural Analysis and Refinement (CAESAR), which collects angle-dispersive data by scanning a solid-state detector (SSD) with white synchrotron radiation. We demonstrate the feasibility by analyzing data collected on αAl2O3 at ambient conditions using the Rietveld technique, with varying schemes of da...

Design and Evaluation of a Switch

Cache coherent non-uniform memory access (CC-NUMA) multiprocessors provide a scal-able design for shared memory but they continue to suuer from large remote memory access latencies due to comparatively slow memory technology and data transfer latencies in the in-terconnection network. In this paper, we propose a novel hardware caching technique, called switch cache, to improve the remote memory...
